Blaberus giganteus, the Giant Cave Roach
Unfortunately this is going to be a short lived entry log.
In November 2021 I acquired a pair of large Blaberus giganteus nymphs (male and female). I would never just get a pair but this was the last pair the seller had, and since then I couldn’t find anymore.
The way I housed them was the same way I housed Blaberus craniifer, but I think I overlooked the temperature. When I got them in late November, the temperatures started to drop, and with the additional moisture on the soil, I think it this cause the female to perish unfortunately.
Since then I haven’t been able to source any other individuals, which is a shame.
To save myself some space and since roaches are communal creatures, I added the giganteus male to the craniifer enclosure and he has been doing great ever since.
Today I found he had molted his last molt into adult stage! and OMG how stunning he is!
Unfortunately, I don’t think I will be able to source any adult females for him and its so sad to see this individual go to waste and not having a colony to go on.
And so I wrap this log with this amazing photo but sad heart.
Until the day I can finally get them again in my collection!
You will be missed!
